Where the content actually is

Every website on our network lives on a server the customer controls. A DNS-only record simply points visitors at that server. A proxied record sends visitors to our edge first, which passes the request on and returns the response; any cached copy is temporary and expires or is purged. Removing a site from its origin removes it from us too.

That is why a complaint about content is ultimately a matter for the customer and whoever hosts it — and why we pass properly made complaints on to the customer responsible, rather than pretending to judge them ourselves.

Streaming is never proxied

Our edge is built for web traffic. When a hostname starts serving streaming media, it is moved to DNS-only automatically: it resolves straight to the customer's own server, and the stream keeps working from there. It is rerouted, not blocked, and working around it — renaming files or rotating hostnames to keep video on the edge — breaches our Acceptable Use Policy. Customers who need streaming delivery can use Cachivo L7, a separate service.

The rules we apply

• A published Acceptable Use Policy. Every enforcement action points to something in the policy: phishing, malware, attacks launched through our network, spam infrastructure, child sexual abuse material and other unlawful use are not permitted.
• Customers are responsible for their content. Our Terms of Service require customers to own or be authorised to manage every domain they add, and to answer for what their origin serves.
• Zero tolerance for child sexual abuse material. It is reported to the relevant authorities and the account is terminated immediately, without notice.
• Copyright and trademark notices are forwarded to the customer responsible for the content. We are a delivery network and do not adjudicate ownership.
• Lawful requests. We disclose customer information only under a lawful order that is binding on us, and tell the customer unless we are prohibited from doing so.
• Privacy. What we collect, why, and for how long is set out in the Privacy Policy. We do not sell data or use it for advertising.
• Transparency. Customers see an audit log of every change to their account, and the health of the network is published on the status page.

How enforcement works

In order: we contact the customer; rate limit the hostname or move it to DNS-only; suspend the domain; terminate the account. Active harm — an ongoing attack, phishing, malware or child sexual abuse material — skips straight to whichever step stops it.

Reporting abuse

If a site or traffic using Cachivo is causing harm, file a report. No account is needed, every report receives a reference number, and each one is reviewed by an operator. Reports can also be emailed to abuse@cachivo.com.
